Features and Benefits
User Installation, Implementation and Training
While every attempt has been made to make B-Compliant “plug-and-play”, it has proved that this is not feasible or practical at present. B-Compliant will continue to work on making the system “plug-and-play”.
B-Compliant requires an authorized consultant to perform the installation, implementation and training. This will be quoted for based on the ruling consulting rate.
Client/Server Multi-User
B-Compliant can be installed as a Multi-User System in a Client/Server environment or as a Single-User in a Standalone environment.
B-Compliant has been developed using Microsoft Access™ comprising of a Backend database and a Frontend database. The Backend contains the data and the Frontend contains the queries, forms and reports.
In a Client/Server environment, the Backend will be installed on a server and the Frontend will be installed on the user’s workstation. Refer to Figure 1. The Frontend can be installed on as many user’s workstations as necessary as the pricing is based per Company and not per User.
In a Standalone environment, both the Backend and the Frontend will be installed on the user’s workstation.
Multi-Company
Corporates and Groups of Companies who run more than one company on their network can now use B-Compliant as a multi-company system.
A B-Compliant multi-company consolidation System is in the process of being developed so that holding companies can produce a consolidated Scorecard. This should be available by the end of April 2009.
As the pricing is based on per Company and not per User, each company will be required to purchase a copy of B-Compliant. Discount can be negotiated for Corporates and Groups.
Data Import
B-Compliant can import data from any Payroll System, Skills Development (or Training) System and ERP System that has ODBC (Open Database Connectivity).
In order to protect the integrity and confidentiality of the data in the source data, B-Compliant does not import data directly from the source data.
The interface between the source data and B-Compliant is Microsoft Excel™ spreadsheets. A read-only ODBC connection is created which allows the user to refresh the spreadsheets from the source data but does not allow the possibility of writing data back to, and possibly corrupting, the source data.
If an interface to a freely available commercial System does not exist, B-Compliant will create one at no charge. Creation of interfaces to in-house tailor-made Systems will be charged for.
The data in the spreadsheets can be viewed by the System Administrator to ensure that no data is extracted from the source data that is not required by B-Compliant.
The example in Figure 1 uses VIP™ for the Payroll System, a manual Excel™ Spreadsheet for the Skills Development System and SYSPRO™ for the ERP System.

Figure 1
Security
Each user of B-Compliant is allocated user rights or levels by the B-Compliant Administrator. This allows/denies users access to various elements of B-Compliant.
B-Compliant requires certain financial information in order to perform calculations in some of the scorecards. As some companies treat all financial information as confidential, an overriding security level allows/denies access to financial information.
Use of B-Compliant is controlled by these security rights from user login.
Data Comparison
B-Compliant provides comparisons between:
- Gazetted parameters “Gaz”
- Company targets/aims “Aim” (input)
- Company actual results “Act” (calculated)
- Company last audit results “Aud” (input)
B-Compliant also shows a colour reflecting how close the company is to achieving a perfect scorecard:
- Red indicates below 50%
- Yellow indicates between 50% and 100%
- Green indicated 100% or higher

Table 2
Data comparison applies to all scorecards.
Graphs
B-Compliant comes with a Graphs Spreadsheet which extracts data from B-Compliant and shows the month-on-month data in graphs. Figure 2 shows, as an example, the data from Table 2 in a graph.

Figure 2
Drill Down
B-Compliant uses a “top-down” approach to viewing the scorecards and the underlying data.
The Master scorecard shows the company’s scorecard consolidated from the 7 underlying scorecards. For example, using the Employment Equity scorecard.
Figure 3
Intelligent Recommendations
The Government Gazette allows companies to make certain decisions based on specific criteria. B-Compliant uses intelligent queries to make recommendations regarding these decisions so as to maximise the score on the Scorecard. The following are examples of “Intelligent Recommendations”:
Example 1: Management Scorecard: The Government Gazette allows companies to combine Senior Top Management and Other Top Management. B-Compliant calculates whether it would be beneficial for the company to do this and, if so, displays an advisory message.
Example 2: Employment Equity Scorecard: The Government Gazette allows companies to combine Middle and Junior Management. B-Compliant calculates whether it would be beneficial for the company to do this and, if so, displays an advisory message.
Warnings
B-Compliant monitors the status of the various elements, and sections within those elements, and provides warnings to either improve the score in specific element or reduce the risk of loosing score in the specific element. The following are examples of “Warnings”:
Example 1: Skills Development Scorecard: Certain courses result in Certificates that expire after a certain period, such as First Aid and Fork Lift Driver training courses. B-Compliant monitors this in advance, displaying a warning message and listing the employees whose certificates are about to expire. This allows the company to schedule refresher courses, thereby spending money on training and improving the score in Skills Development Scorecard.
Example 2: Preferential Procurement Scorecard: BBBEE Certificates of Compliance are valid for 12 months from date of issue. B-Compliant monitors this in advance, displaying a warning message and listing the suppliers whose certificates are about to expire. B-Compliant then prompts the user to take action through the Supplier Follow-Up module, reducing the risk of loosing score in the Preferential Procurement Scorecard.
